GeoSopranoSax

GeoSopranoSax is a physically modeled soprano saxophone for GeoShred Studio, where the horn's bright, focused upper voice sits under your fingers on a continuous pitch surface. A note swells, bends, and fades for exactly as long as you keep playing it: pressure and gesture on the grid shape breath intensity, vibrato, and tone color in real time, from a soft, reedy murmur to a full, singing top.

Twenty factory presets cover the range from Dry and Finger Vibrato to Resonator, Looper, and Meditation. Works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, and GeoShred Control, a free iPhone and iPad companion app that delivers a multi-touch expressive surface for live performance.

GeoSopranoSax runs inside GeoShred Studio, with a license included for customers who do not already own one.

GeoSopranoSax – Physically Modeled Soprano Saxophone for GeoShred Studio

A NOTE SWELLS, BENDS, AND FADES FOR AS LONG AS YOU HOLD IT
Inside GeoShred Studio, GeoSopranoSax places the soprano saxophone's focused, reedy voice on a multi-row continuous pitch surface. The Expression control governs every note for its entire duration: lean in and the tone swells and brightens, ease off and it thins to a breathy murmur, release and it fades the way a player's breath runs out. Slide a finger along a row and the pitch bends with it; a small oscillation of the fingertip becomes vibrato. Intonation, the soprano's most demanding trait, is decided by where the finger lands. Reverb, echo, and amp modeling from GeoShred's integrated FX rack respond to the same performance, and Audio Modeling's SWAM physical model supplies the conical bore and single reed underneath.

What's Inside GeoSopranoSax:

  • Continuous pitch surface across the soprano saxophone's range, with chromatic access, portamento, and glide available on every note of the isomorphic grid
  • Expression-driven dynamics, breath character, vibrato depth and speed, and tone color that follow pressure and gesture for the full length of every note
  • 20 factory presets, from Dry and Finger Vibrato to Resonator, Looper, and Meditation
  • Integrated GeoShred FX rack including EchoMT, Reverb, and AmpCab for clean, processed, and ambient saxophone textures
  • MPE controller, wind and breath controller, and GeoShred Control companion app support
  • SWAM physical modeling by Audio Modeling: conical-bore and single-reed acoustics with the soprano's characteristic pitch sensitivity under direct control

Why the Soprano Saxophone Sounds the Way It Does

Focused, penetrating, and reedy at the top, rounder and warmer low down: that is the soprano saxophone, the highest of the four standard saxophones, pitched in Bb and usually built straight. Its narrow conical bore and small single reed let the pitch center move readily with lip pressure and air speed, so the instrument is prized for its vocal bends and feared for its intonation. Sidney Bechet made it a jazz solo voice; John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter made it a modern one. GeoSopranoSax models that pitch sensitivity as something you steer with a finger.

Holding a Note on the Grid

Much of soprano saxophone phrasing happens after the attack: the long tone that opens from nothing, the held note that leans sharp for emphasis and settles back, the final pitch that dissolves into breath. In GeoShred Studio each of those gestures is a physical motion. Pressure into the surface carries the swell; a slow lateral drift carries the lean; a rocking fingertip carries the vibrato, with depth and speed following the hand. Because pitch is continuous along each row, a scoop into a note or a fall away from one is simply where the finger goes. The FX rack shapes the result as you play, so Reverb blooms with the swell and EchoMT repeats the fall.

The same control is available from GeoShred Control on a compatible iOS device, and from MPE and breath controllers connected to GeoShred Studio.

GeoShred Studio and GeoShred Control

GeoShred Studio is moForte's professional desktop instrument platform, running as a VST3, AU, or AUv3 plugin inside your DAW or as a standalone application. Its multi-row isomorphic surface, tuned in fourths like a guitar, keeps chromatic runs and wide intervals under the hand without position shifts, and its pressure response translates directly into the breath dynamics that define saxophone phrasing. Wind and breath controllers connect directly, and MPE hardware integrates natively.

GeoShred Control pairs with GeoShred Studio over USB or wireless MIDI, delivering a free multi-touch iOS surface for live performance alongside hardware controllers.

GeoSWAM vs. SWAM Soprano Saxophone

GeoSWAM instruments run inside GeoShred Studio and are built around GeoShred's expressive performance surface, including its multi-row grid, continuous pitch layout, pressure response, gesture control, and integrated FX rack. The instrument's core parameters are curated and mapped for immediate, real-time musical control within the GeoShred environment.

SWAM Soprano Saxophone is Audio Modeling's standalone instrument and plug-in, included in SWAM Saxophones, which can operate independently or inside a DAW. It provides deeper access to advanced model parameters and detailed customization within its own interface.

Both use the same underlying SWAM physical modeling technology and are capable of highly expressive performance. The difference lies in interface design, parameter depth, and workflow architecture.

They are separate products developed independently, and there are no upgrade or crossgrade paths between the two product lines.

GeoShred Studio Required. GeoSopranoSax runs inside GeoShred Studio. A GeoShred Studio license is included with purchase for customers who do not already have one. Existing GeoShred Studio owners can use their current license to run GeoSopranoSax.

FAQ

What is GeoSopranoSax?
GeoSopranoSax is a physically modeled soprano saxophone powered by SWAM technology from Audio Modeling, running inside GeoShred Studio. It delivers breath-driven dynamics, pitch bends, vibrato, and tone color with continuous pitch control, pressure-responsive expression, and 20 factory presets across GeoShred's performance surface.

Do I need GeoShred Studio to use GeoSopranoSax?
Yes. GeoSopranoSax runs inside GeoShred Studio, and a GeoShred Studio license is included with your purchase for customers who do not already own one. If you already own GeoShred Studio, you can use your existing license to run GeoSopranoSax.

What's the difference between GeoSWAM and Naada instruments?
GeoShred offers two families of physically modeled instruments: GeoSWAM and Naada. While both deliver deeply expressive performance through GeoShred's touch surface and MPE support, they come from different modeling technologies and are designed with different musical goals in mind.

GeoSWAM instruments are developed in collaboration with Audio Modeling and are closely related to their acclaimed SWAM instruments. These models focus primarily on Western orchestral and acoustic instruments such as brass, woodwinds, and strings. GeoSWAM instruments are designed for highly detailed expressive solo performance and operate as monophonic instruments, just like their real-world counterparts.

Naada instruments are developed by AccelMatrix and emphasize a broader palette of global instruments, including instruments such as Bansuri, Sitar, Veena, and many others alongside selected Western instruments. In contrast to GeoSWAM, Naada instruments are polyphonic, making them ideal for chords, layered textures, and rich ensemble-style performance.

In short:
GeoSWAM: monophonic, orchestral focus, highly detailed solo performance
Naada: polyphonic, broader global instrument palette, ideal for chords and layered textures.

Both instrument families share the same expressive GeoShred performance environment, giving players an intuitive and powerful way to perform physically modeled instruments.

Do GeoSWAM and Naada instruments use the same parameters?
No. Because the two families use different modeling technologies, each instrument includes its own parameter set tailored to its physical model. These parameters control aspects of the instrument's behavior and performance response.

What controllers work with GeoSopranoSax?
GeoSopranoSax works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, the free GeoShred Control iOS companion app, and standard MIDI keyboards when paired with a breath, expression, or foot controller.

Is GeoSopranoSax monophonic?
Yes. Like all GeoSWAM instruments, GeoSopranoSax is monophonic, mirroring the behavior of its acoustic counterpart. For polyphonic performance, GeoShred Studio offers the Naada instrument family, which supports chords, layered textures, and ensemble-style playing.
