SWAM Violin

An incredibly realistic, real-time controllable, and expressive virtual violin.

SWAM Violin is a physical-modeled violin plugin (VST/AU/AAX) designed for real-time expressive control. Shape dynamics, vibrato, articulation, and phrasing directly as you play, without keyswitching or pre-recorded samples.

Built for composers, producers, and performers, it provides a responsive playing experience suited for solo lines, exposed passages, and detailed orchestral writing.

$99.00

SWAM Violin uses physical modeling to generate sound in real time, allowing continuous control over articulation, dynamics, and tone. Instead of switching between sampled articulations, performance parameters respond directly to your playing, making it easier to shape musical phrasing naturally.

For composers and producers working with sample libraries, SWAM Violin offers a different approach. It removes the need for keyswitching and layered articulations, allowing you to focus on performance instead of programming.

For live performers, it provides a responsive instrument that can be played in real time, with behavior that follows the nuances of a violin.

Physically Modeled Violin Plugin for Real-Time Expression

SWAM-S technology guarantees the same natural reactions as a real instrument. With SWAM instruments you can compose and arrange your orchestra pieces or concertos.

SWAM Violin is an instrument based on physical modeling. So it is possible to control the main mechanical variables in real time. For example, the velocity controls the attack of the sound and the portamento time, as well when playing legato. The mod wheel can control the vibrato and any foot pedal can be assigned to the expression. There is indeed no limit to the number of possible combinations.

For Stage and Studio

SWAM instruments overcome the limitations that are typical of traditional samplers through a combination of innovative performance techniques and concepts of physical and behavioral modeling, with no samples required.

SWAM Violin only weighs a few Megabytes. As a producer, composer or live performer, you can use SWAM Violin for any musical genre by layering it in a sections with no artifacts and simply selecting different timbres for each instance.

Real-Time Performance Control

All the following parameters are controllable in real-time (through MIDI) or by a Digital Audio Workstation:

  • Expression (Dynamic)
  • Note transitions (Staccato / Legato / Portamento) with no KeySwitches
  • Bow Pressure
  • Bow Position
  • Play Mode (Bowed, Pizzicato, Col Legno)
  • Mono vs Double polyphony
  • Vibrato Depth
  • Vibrato Rate
  • Tremolo On/Off
  • Tremolo Speed
  • Harmonics
  • Portamento Time
  • Portamento split point (across strings)
  • Attack speed
  • Dynamic Transitions
  • Sordino On/Off
  • String preferred selection
  • Alternate Fingering
  • Bow Lift, Bow Start (Up / Down)
  • Sustain
  • Microtuning
  • Main Volume
  • Pan Pot
  • Reverb Mix

Now Updated to v3!

The latest version improves responsiveness, legato behavior, and overall tone, with expanded MIDI control and deeper customization for performance setups.

  • Powerful MIDI Mapping feature that supports CC, Hi-Res CC, After-Touch NRPN, and remapping curves that allow more customization and sensitivity to any controller.
  • Realistic Legatos
  • New Pizzicato Model
  • General Sound improvement and behavior of bowed string
  • Timbral correction feature. You’ll be able to select up to two harmonics to adjust (for emphasis or reduction).
  • Standalone version, introduced VST3 plug-in format, and Native Instruments NKS compatibility.
  • Real-time bow Sensitivity Control (on bowing mode). This gives you the ability to transform the bow, from a short bow with soft strokes to a full-length bow with strong strokes.

A More Direct Way to Play Violin

SWAM Violin shifts the focus from triggering samples to shaping performance. Instead of selecting articulations, you control phring, dynamics, and expression continuously, allowing the instrument to respond naturally as you play.

It’s a practical solution for detailed solo work, expressive passages, and real-time performance.

FAQ

What is SWAM Violin?

SWAM Violin is a physical modeling violin plugin (VST/AU/AAX) designed for real-time expressive performance, with continuous control over articulation, dynamics, and phrasing.

How is SWAM Violin different from sampled violin libraries?

SWAM Violin generates sound in real time using physical modeling synthesis, rather than triggering pre-recorded samples. This allows continuous control over expression without keyswitching or switching between articulations.

Can I use SWAM Violin for live performance?

Yes. SWAM Violin is designed for real-time control and can be played live using MIDI controllers, offering a responsive playing experience suited for performance setups.

What kind of music is SWAM Violin suited for?

It works well for solo violin parts, exposed passages, orchestral writing, film scoring, modern production, and experimental music where detailed control over expression is important.

Do I need to manage articulations manually?

No. Articulation and expression are controlled continuously through performance, allowing smooth transitions without keyswitches or pre-loaded articulations.

Can I layer multiple instances to create sections?

Yes. Multiple instances can be layered to build ensemble textures, with each instance responding independently for a more natural result. For a dedicated plugin designed for multi-instrument string sections, see SWAM String Sections.

Does SWAM Violin include Ambiente?

SWAM Violin can integrate with Audio Modeling’s Ambiente system for room modeling and spatial placement. The full Ambiente plugin is required to extend this environment to external audio sources and other virtual instruments.

Who is SWAM Violin for?

It is designed for composers, producers, and performers who need detailed, real-time control over violin expression in both studio and live environments.

System Requirements

Supported formats and OS

macOS:

  • macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) – 14 (Sonoma)
  • Standalone, Audio Units, VST, VST3, AAX 64bit
  • NKS (Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol)
  • Apple Silicon architecture supported natively (AAX Silicon supported natively starting from v3.7.0)

Windows:

  • Windows 10, Windows 11
  • Standalone, VST, VST3, AAX 64bit
  • NKS (Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol)

Small footprint!

  • Required space after installation: 16 MB per single plugin format + 15 MB for shared resources and assets, 240 MB for the complete Solo Strings bundle (all plugin formats).
  • RAM occupancy: about 15 MB per instrument instance.

CPU load

  • The realism and expressiveness of SWAM instruments require a computer with at least a 1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo CPU for running a single plugin instance. Less powerful systems may also prove satisfactory, but may require larger buffer sizes, involving higher latencies.
