GeoBansuri
GeoBansuri models the Indian bamboo flute inside GeoShred Studio, where one finger sliding across the grid carries the meend, the glide between notes that is the bansuri's own voice. The instrument is keyless, so ornaments and microtonal inflections are part of how it speaks, and GeoShred's continuous pitch surface plays them directly, with breath intensity, vibrato, and airiness shaped by pressure and gesture in real time.
Meditation, Finger Vibrato, and Resonator are among the 20 factory presets. Works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, and GeoShred Control, a free iPhone and iPad companion app that delivers a multi-touch expressive surface for live performance.
GeoBansuri runs inside GeoShred Studio, with a license included for customers who do not already own one.
GeoBansuri – Physically Modeled Bansuri for GeoShred Studio
THE SLIDE BETWEEN NOTES IS THE BANSURI'S OWN VOICE
A raga phrase on GeoBansuri is traced with a single finger across GeoShred Studio's continuous pitch surface: draw it slowly along a row for the meend that connects two notes, oscillate it for the gamak, flick it for the grace notes that decorate a landing tone. Pressure governs the breath, moving the sound from a whispered, air-heavy murmur to a clear, luminous line, with vibrato rate and depth following the hand. The integrated FX rack is part of the instrument: the Sympathetic Resonator adds shimmer, Reverb places the flute in a temple courtyard, EchoMT answers a phrase in rhythm. Audio Modeling's SWAM engine models the keyless bamboo tube and its embouchure hole as a single living column of air.

What's Inside GeoBansuri:
- Continuous pitch surface across the bansuri's range, with meend, gamak, and microtonal ornaments played directly as finger motion along the isomorphic grid
- Breath-driven dynamics, airiness, and vibrato depth and speed that answer pressure and gesture through every phrase
- 20 factory presets including Meditation, Finger Vibrato, and Resonator
- Integrated GeoShred FX rack including Sympathetic Resonator, EchoMT, Reverb, and AmpCab, from a dry bamboo tone to a shimmering, resonant one
- MPE controller, wind and breath controller, and GeoShred Control companion app support
- SWAM physical modeling by Audio Modeling: keyless bamboo tube, embouchure hole, and breath noise simulated as one column of air
Bamboo, Breath, and the Raga Line
Pure, airy, and luminous, with a breathy attack and clear upper partials: the bansuri is a single keyless bamboo tube with one blow hole and six or seven finger holes. Intonation and color depend entirely on embouchure and breath, and partially covering a hole produces the microtonal inflections that Hindustani raga is built on. The instrument carries sacred weight in Indian iconography, where Krishna is almost always shown playing one; Pannalal Ghosh made it a concert instrument and Hariprasad Chaurasia carried it to stages worldwide. GeoBansuri models the keyless tube so the glides between notes are the instrument's own.
Meend and Ornament With One Finger
On a bamboo flute, a glide from one note to the next is produced by rolling a finger slowly off a hole. On GeoShred's surface, the same glide is a finger drawn along a row. GeoShred's pitch rounding keeps the landing in tune while the slide itself stays continuous, and the Slide and Guitar quantization modes set how freely the surface rounds, so a meend can take its time or a fast passage can land cleanly. GeoShred Studio ships with more than 200 scales and Indian ragas built in, with optional Indian svara note names on the keys, so the grid can be set to the raga before the first note is played. Pressure handles the breath, and the FX rack handles the room.
GeoShred Studio and GeoShred Control
GeoShred Studio is moForte's professional desktop instrument platform, running as a VST3, AU, or AUv3 plugin inside your DAW or as a standalone application. Its continuous pitch surface is the natural home for a keyless flute: the ornaments that define the bansuri's phrasing are gestures of the hand, and pressure response translates directly into breath. Wind and breath controllers connect directly, and MPE hardware integrates natively.
GeoShred Control pairs with GeoShred Studio over USB or wireless MIDI, delivering a free multi-touch iOS surface for live performance alongside hardware controllers.

GeoSWAM vs. SWAM VariFlute
GeoSWAM instruments run inside GeoShred Studio and are built around GeoShred's expressive performance surface, including its multi-row grid, continuous pitch layout, pressure response, gesture control, and integrated FX rack. The instrument's core parameters are curated and mapped for immediate, real-time musical control within the GeoShred environment.
SWAM VariFlute is the Audio Modeling standalone instrument and plug-in from which GeoBansuri is derived. It can operate independently or inside a DAW, and it is a configurable flute whose tube type, material, pipe length, diameter, aperture, and breath noise can be shaped toward bansuri-style sounds and many others, with deeper access to advanced model parameters within its own interface. GeoBansuri is a fixed, curated model of that flute for GeoShred Studio.
Both use the same underlying SWAM physical modeling technology and are capable of highly expressive performance. The difference lies in interface design, parameter depth, and workflow architecture.
They are separate products developed independently, and there are no upgrade or crossgrade paths between the two product lines.

FAQ
What is GeoBansuri?
GeoBansuri is a physically modeled Indian bamboo flute powered by SWAM technology from Audio Modeling, running inside GeoShred Studio. It delivers the bansuri's airy tone, meend, and ornaments with continuous pitch control, breath-driven dynamics, pressure-responsive expression, and 20 factory presets across GeoShred's performance surface.
Do I need GeoShred Studio to use GeoBansuri?
Yes. GeoBansuri runs inside GeoShred Studio, and a GeoShred Studio license is included with your purchase for customers who do not already own one. If you already own GeoShred Studio, you can use your existing license to run GeoBansuri.
What's the difference between GeoSWAM and Naada instruments?
GeoShred offers two families of physically modeled instruments: GeoSWAM and Naada. While both deliver deeply expressive performance through GeoShred's touch surface and MPE support, they come from different modeling technologies and are designed with different musical goals in mind.
GeoSWAM instruments are developed in collaboration with Audio Modeling and are closely related to their acclaimed SWAM instruments. These models focus primarily on Western orchestral and acoustic instruments such as brass, woodwinds, and strings, and with GeoSWAM Collection IV extend to a set of world flutes. GeoSWAM instruments are designed for highly detailed expressive solo performance and operate as monophonic instruments, just like their real-world counterparts.
Naada instruments are developed by AccelMatrix and emphasize a broader palette of global instruments, including instruments such as Bansuri, Sitar, Veena, and many others alongside selected Western instruments. In contrast to GeoSWAM, Naada instruments are polyphonic, making them ideal for chords, layered textures, and rich ensemble-style performance.
In short:
GeoSWAM: monophonic, orchestral and world-flute focus, highly detailed solo performance
Naada: polyphonic, broader global instrument palette, ideal for chords and layered textures.
Both instrument families share the same expressive GeoShred performance environment, giving players an intuitive and powerful way to perform physically modeled instruments.
What's the difference between GeoBansuri and Naada Bansuri?
GeoBansuri is a GeoSWAM instrument designed for detailed monophonic solo performance, closely modeling the behavior of a traditional acoustic bansuri. Naada Bansuri is a polyphonic Naada instrument that allows chordal playing and layered textures while still providing expressive performance control within GeoShred.
Do GeoSWAM and Naada instruments use the same parameters?
No. Because the two families use different modeling technologies, each instrument includes its own parameter set tailored to its physical model. These parameters control aspects of the instrument's behavior and performance response.
What controllers work with GeoBansuri?
GeoBansuri works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, the free GeoShred Control iOS companion app, and standard MIDI keyboards when paired with a breath, expression, or foot controller.
Is GeoBansuri monophonic?
Yes. Like all GeoSWAM instruments, GeoBansuri is monophonic, mirroring the behavior of its acoustic counterpart. For polyphonic performance, GeoShred Studio offers the Naada instrument family, which supports chords, layered textures, and ensemble-style playing.
