GeoPan
In GeoPan, the pan flute's row of stopped pipes becomes a row of notes on GeoShred Studio's continuous pitch surface, one pipe per note, with the breathy chiff of air crossing the rim on every attack. Breath drives every note, from a whisper to a bright, ringing tone, and moving across the grid is the equivalent of moving the lips from pipe to pipe, with pressure and gesture shaping dynamics and vibrato in real time.
Dry, Swell, Looper, and Arp are among the 20 factory presets. Works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, and GeoShred Control, a free iPhone and iPad companion app that delivers a multi-touch expressive surface for live performance.
GeoPan runs inside GeoShred Studio, with a license included for customers who do not already own one.
GeoPan – Physically Modeled Pan Flute for GeoShred Studio
ONE PIPE PER NOTE, AND THE CHIFF OF AIR ACROSS THE RIM ON EVERY ATTACK
GeoPan arranges the pan flute's stopped pipes across GeoShred Studio's multi-row continuous pitch surface. Each note begins the way a real pipe does, with a short burst of breath noise before the tone locks in, and pressure decides what follows: a whisper that is mostly air, or a bright, ringing tone that carries across a hall. Moving from note to note is moving from pipe to pipe, so leaps and repeated notes keep their distinct attacks, and a gentle oscillation of the fingertip gives the vibrato a player makes by tilting the instrument. Reverb from the integrated FX rack opens up the space, and Audio Modeling's SWAM engine models the stopped pipe and the air jet across its rim in real time.

What's Inside GeoPan:
- Pipe-per-note layout across GeoShred's isomorphic grid, with each new note carrying its own breath attack and vibrato available through finger motion
- Breath-driven dynamics from whisper to ringing tone, with chiff, airiness, and vibrato responding continuously to pressure and gesture
- 20 factory presets, from Dry and Swell to Looper and Arp
- Integrated GeoShred FX rack including EchoMT, Reverb, and AmpCab, from an intimate dry pipe to a wide, echoing one
- MPE controller, wind and breath controller, and GeoShred Control companion app support
- SWAM physical modeling by Audio Modeling: stopped-pipe acoustics and the air jet across the rim, with the chiff of every attack modeled
Stopped Pipes and the Sound of Air
Hollow, pure, and slightly breathy, with a chiff of air at the start of every note: the pan flute is a set of pipes of graduated lengths, each closed at the bottom and sounding one pitch when blown across its top. A stopped pipe sounds an octave lower than an open pipe of the same length and favors the odd harmonics, the source of that purity. Players make vibrato by rocking the instrument against the lips. One of the oldest instruments known, it is the Andean siku and a Romanian concert solo voice. GeoPan models that pipe and that air.
Pipe to Pipe Across the Grid
Because each pan flute note comes from a separate pipe, the instrument's phrasing is built from attacks rather than slurs: a melody is a sequence of small breaths, and a wide leap is as easy as a step. GeoShred's isomorphic grid, tuned in fourths, keeps those leaps under one hand, and every arrival on a new note carries the same chiff a player produces by moving to a new pipe. Pressure through a held note gives the swell and fade that define a slow pan flute melody, and a rocking fingertip supplies the vibrato. Presets named Arp and Looper offer arpeggiated and repeating starting points for ostinato figures.
GeoShred Studio and GeoShred Control
GeoShred Studio is moForte's professional desktop instrument platform, running as a VST3, AU, or AUv3 plugin inside your DAW or as a standalone application. Its multi-row surface and native pressure response suit an instrument whose character lives in the attack and the breath behind it, and its continuous pitch layout keeps the option of a slide where a real pan flute would need to bend by tilting the instrument. Wind and breath controllers connect directly, and MPE hardware integrates natively.
GeoShred Control pairs with GeoShred Studio over USB or wireless MIDI, delivering a free multi-touch iOS surface for live performance alongside hardware controllers.

GeoSWAM vs. SWAM VariFlute
GeoSWAM instruments run inside GeoShred Studio and are built around GeoShred's expressive performance surface, including its multi-row grid, continuous pitch layout, pressure response, gesture control, and integrated FX rack. The instrument's core parameters are curated and mapped for immediate, real-time musical control within the GeoShred environment.
SWAM VariFlute is the Audio Modeling standalone instrument and plug-in from which GeoPan is derived. It can operate independently or inside a DAW, and it is a configurable flute whose tube type, material, pipe length, diameter, aperture, and breath noise can be shaped toward pan-flute-style sounds and many others, with deeper access to advanced model parameters within its own interface. GeoPan is a fixed, curated model of that flute for GeoShred Studio.
Both use the same underlying SWAM physical modeling technology and are capable of highly expressive performance. The difference lies in interface design, parameter depth, and workflow architecture.
They are separate products developed independently, and there are no upgrade or crossgrade paths between the two product lines.
GeoShred Studio Required. GeoPan runs inside GeoShred Studio. A GeoShred Studio license is included with purchase for customers who do not already have one. Existing GeoShred Studio owners can use their current license to run GeoPan.
FAQ
What is GeoPan?
GeoPan is a physically modeled pan flute powered by SWAM technology from Audio Modeling, running inside GeoShred Studio. It delivers the instrument's stopped-pipe tone and breathy attack with continuous pitch control, breath-driven dynamics, pressure-responsive expression, and 20 factory presets across GeoShred's performance surface.
Do I need GeoShred Studio to use GeoPan?
Yes. GeoPan runs inside GeoShred Studio, and a GeoShred Studio license is included with your purchase for customers who do not already own one. If you already own GeoShred Studio, you can use your existing license to run GeoPan.
What's the difference between GeoSWAM and Naada instruments?
GeoShred offers two families of physically modeled instruments: GeoSWAM and Naada. While both deliver deeply expressive performance through GeoShred's touch surface and MPE support, they come from different modeling technologies and are designed with different musical goals in mind.
GeoSWAM instruments are developed in collaboration with Audio Modeling and are closely related to their acclaimed SWAM instruments. These models focus primarily on Western orchestral and acoustic instruments such as brass, woodwinds, and strings, and with GeoSWAM Collection IV extend to a set of world flutes. GeoSWAM instruments are designed for highly detailed expressive solo performance and operate as monophonic instruments, just like their real-world counterparts.
Naada instruments are developed by AccelMatrix and emphasize a broader palette of global instruments, including instruments such as Bansuri, Sitar, Veena, and many others alongside selected Western instruments. In contrast to GeoSWAM, Naada instruments are polyphonic, making them ideal for chords, layered textures, and rich ensemble-style performance.
In short:
GeoSWAM: monophonic, orchestral and world-flute focus, highly detailed solo performance
Naada: polyphonic, broader global instrument palette, ideal for chords and layered textures.
Both instrument families share the same expressive GeoShred performance environment, giving players an intuitive and powerful way to perform physically modeled instruments.
What's the difference between GeoPan and Naada Pan Flute?
GeoPan is a GeoSWAM instrument designed for detailed monophonic solo performance, closely modeling the behavior of a traditional acoustic pan flute. Naada Pan Flute is a polyphonic Naada instrument that allows chordal playing and layered textures while still providing expressive performance control within GeoShred.
Do GeoSWAM and Naada instruments use the same parameters?
No. Because the two families use different modeling technologies, each instrument includes its own parameter set tailored to its physical model. These parameters control aspects of the instrument's behavior and performance response.
What controllers work with GeoPan?
GeoPan works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, the free GeoShred Control iOS companion app, and standard MIDI keyboards when paired with a breath, expression, or foot controller.
Is GeoPan monophonic?
Yes. Like all GeoSWAM instruments, GeoPan is monophonic, mirroring the behavior of its acoustic counterpart. For polyphonic performance, GeoShred Studio offers the Naada instrument family, which supports chords, layered textures, and ensemble-style playing.
