GeoWhistle

GeoWhistle models the tin whistle for GeoShred Studio: a small six-hole pipe, bright and quick, that jumps to its upper octave when the breath pushes harder. Cuts, taps, rolls, and slides fall under one finger on the continuous pitch surface, and pressure and gesture shape breath intensity and tone in real time, from a soft, airy low octave to a piercing top.

Diatonic, Strum, and EZ Touch head a set of 20 factory presets. Works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, and GeoShred Control, a free iPhone and iPad companion app that delivers a multi-touch expressive surface for live performance.

GeoWhistle runs inside GeoShred Studio, with a license included for customers who do not already own one.

GeoWhistle – Physically Modeled Tin Whistle for GeoShred Studio

SIX HOLES, TWO OCTAVES, AND ORNAMENTS THAT FALL UNDER ONE FINGER
GeoWhistle puts the tin whistle's bright, simple voice on GeoShred Studio's multi-row continuous pitch surface, where breath decides which octave the pipe speaks in: ease off and the low octave is soft and slightly airy, push harder and the whistle leaps into its ringing upper octave, the way a real one does when a player leans into a tune. The ornaments that stand in for dynamics in Irish and Scottish dance music, the cut, the tap, the roll, the slide into a long note, are quick finger gestures on the grid. GeoShred's integrated FX rack adds a hall with Reverb or a rhythmic answer with EchoMT, and Audio Modeling's SWAM engine models the short pipe and its whistle mouthpiece with every breath.

What's Inside GeoWhistle:

  • Continuous pitch across the whistle's roughly two-octave compass on GeoShred's isomorphic grid, with ornaments and slides played as finger motion
  • Breath-driven dynamics and the overblown jump to the upper octave, with airiness and tone following pressure and gesture
  • 20 factory presets including Diatonic, Strum, and EZ Touch
  • Integrated GeoShred FX rack including EchoMT, Reverb, and AmpCab, from a dry session-room whistle to a wide, echoing one
  • MPE controller, wind and breath controller, and GeoShred Control companion app support
  • SWAM physical modeling by Audio Modeling: six-hole pipe, whistle mouthpiece, and breath pressure modeled note by note

The Penny Whistle's Bright, Simple Voice

Bright, simple, and quick: the tin whistle is a six-hole pipe with a whistle mouthpiece, so the tone is produced like a recorder's, by air split on an edge. It is diatonic, usually pitched in D, with about two octaves; the second is reached by blowing harder, and since breath also pushes pitch, the upper octave rings bright and a shade sharp. Cuts, taps, rolls, and slides stand in for dynamics. It is the voice of Irish and Scottish dance music and a frequent film and television color. GeoWhistle models the overblown jump and the breath that sharpens it.

Cuts, Rolls, and the Jump to the Upper Octave

A whistle player thinks in ornaments. A cut is a brief flick to a higher note and back; a tap flicks below; a roll strings the two together around a held note; a slide approaches a long note from underneath. On GeoShred's surface these are small, fast finger motions, and because GeoShred Studio can lock the grid to a scale, the notes of a tune are the notes under the hand, with the Diatonic preset as the natural starting point. The jump to the upper octave is pressure: lean in and the pipe overblows, exactly where a player would take a breath and push. For long notes, the airiness of the low octave and the ring of the high one are both a matter of how hard you press, and a slow release lets a phrase end in breath.

Strum and EZ Touch complete the preset set, each with the same breath response.

GeoShred Studio and GeoShred Control

GeoShred Studio is moForte's professional desktop instrument platform, running as a VST3, AU, or AUv3 plugin inside your DAW or as a standalone application. Its isomorphic surface puts the fast, repeating shapes of dance tunes under one hand position, and its pressure response carries the breath that decides which octave the whistle speaks in. Wind and breath controllers connect directly, and MPE hardware integrates natively.

GeoShred Control pairs with GeoShred Studio over USB or wireless MIDI, delivering a free multi-touch iOS surface for live performance alongside hardware controllers.

GeoSWAM vs. SWAM VariFlute

GeoSWAM instruments run inside GeoShred Studio and are built around GeoShred's expressive performance surface, including its multi-row grid, continuous pitch layout, pressure response, gesture control, and integrated FX rack. The instrument's core parameters are curated and mapped for immediate, real-time musical control within the GeoShred environment.

SWAM VariFlute is the Audio Modeling standalone instrument and plug-in from which GeoWhistle is derived. It can operate independently or inside a DAW, and it is a configurable flute whose tube type, material, pipe length, diameter, aperture, and breath noise can be shaped toward whistle-style sounds and many others, with deeper access to advanced model parameters within its own interface. GeoWhistle is a fixed, curated model of that flute for GeoShred Studio.

Both use the same underlying SWAM physical modeling technology and are capable of highly expressive performance. The difference lies in interface design, parameter depth, and workflow architecture.

They are separate products developed independently, and there are no upgrade or crossgrade paths between the two product lines.

FAQ

What is GeoWhistle?
GeoWhistle is a physically modeled tin whistle powered by SWAM technology from Audio Modeling, running inside GeoShred Studio. It delivers the whistle's bright two-octave voice, breath-driven octave jump, and traditional ornaments with continuous pitch control, pressure-responsive expression, and 20 factory presets across GeoShred's performance surface.

Do I need GeoShred Studio to use GeoWhistle?
Yes. GeoWhistle runs inside GeoShred Studio, and a GeoShred Studio license is included with your purchase for customers who do not already own one. If you already own GeoShred Studio, you can use your existing license to run GeoWhistle.

What's the difference between GeoSWAM and Naada instruments?
GeoShred offers two families of physically modeled instruments: GeoSWAM and Naada. While both deliver deeply expressive performance through GeoShred's touch surface and MPE support, they come from different modeling technologies and are designed with different musical goals in mind.

GeoSWAM instruments are developed in collaboration with Audio Modeling and are closely related to their acclaimed SWAM instruments. These models focus primarily on Western orchestral and acoustic instruments such as brass, woodwinds, and strings, and with GeoSWAM Collection IV extend to a set of world flutes. GeoSWAM instruments are designed for highly detailed expressive solo performance and operate as monophonic instruments, just like their real-world counterparts.

Naada instruments are developed by AccelMatrix and emphasize a broader palette of global instruments, including instruments such as Bansuri, Sitar, Veena, and many others alongside selected Western instruments. In contrast to GeoSWAM, Naada instruments are polyphonic, making them ideal for chords, layered textures, and rich ensemble-style performance.

In short:
GeoSWAM: monophonic, orchestral and world-flute focus, highly detailed solo performance
Naada: polyphonic, broader global instrument palette, ideal for chords and layered textures.

Both instrument families share the same expressive GeoShred performance environment, giving players an intuitive and powerful way to perform physically modeled instruments.

Do GeoSWAM and Naada instruments use the same parameters?
No. Because the two families use different modeling technologies, each instrument includes its own parameter set tailored to its physical model. These parameters control aspects of the instrument's behavior and performance response.

What controllers work with GeoWhistle?
GeoWhistle works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, the free GeoShred Control iOS companion app, and standard MIDI keyboards when paired with a breath, expression, or foot controller.

Is GeoWhistle monophonic?
Yes. Like all GeoSWAM instruments, GeoWhistle is monophonic, mirroring the behavior of its acoustic counterpart. For polyphonic performance, GeoShred Studio offers the Naada instrument family, which supports chords, layered textures, and ensemble-style playing.

Is GeoWhistle limited to one key?
The acoustic tin whistle is diatonic, and the Diatonic preset reproduces that layout for traditional tunes. GeoShred's isomorphic grid is chromatic, so within the model's range, notes outside the home key and continuous slides are available on any row.
