Overloud Gem Comp160 is a modern VCA compressor plug-in inspired by the legendary dbx 160—delivering fast punch and mix-ready control for drums, bass, vocals, and full mixes. Switch between three distinct compressor versions in a single instance (VU, XT, and A), then refine the result with modern features like Mid-Side processing, parallel compression, oversampling, A/B comparison, and calibrated VU metering.

Three Classic Compressors, One Plug-In
The Overloud Gem Comp160 is a revolutionary emulation of three distinct versions of the legendary 160 VCA compressor — faithfully capturing each version’s distinct tone, response, and character.
Choose Your 160 Flavor: VU, XT, or A

VU - The original version delivering a rich, punchy analog character with the unmistakable feel that made the 160 a studio staple. Sporting its VU-style metering and classic control layout, this is the father of all VCA compressors.

XT - Warmer and more harmonically dense, with enhanced low-frequency presence and a fuller bottom end. The XT Version offers a smoother, more versatile tone compared to the VU. It delivers a richer low end and a great harmonic structure, thanks to the optional transformer installed in the reference model. The XT version also features the Overeasy control, that enables the soft-knee compression curve.

A - The A version is a more modern and transparent evolution of the 160, featuring a slightly faster response time and tighter control. Its snappy attack parameter is useful for taming sharp transients. The A version also has a cleaner sound and broader frequency response, making this version ideal for a variety of applications.

FAQ
- What is Gem Comp160 modeled after?
If you ever wanted the dbx 160 as a plugin this is it! This plugin emulates three distinct versions of legendary dbx 160* compressors, each with its own tone and response: VU (classic punch), XT (warmer with fuller low end and Overeasy soft-knee), and A (cleaner, faster, more modern control). - What’s the difference between VU, XT, and A Models?
VU is the classic punchy “studio staple” feel. XT is warmer and more harmonically dense with enhanced low-frequency presence and an Overeasy soft-knee option. A is more transparent with a slightly faster response and tighter control for snappy transient taming. - Does it support parallel compression?
Yes—Gem Comp160 includes built-in parallel compression, so you can blend the compressed signal with the dry signal directly inside the plug-in. - Can I do Mid-Side compression as an option for stereo signals?
Yes—built-in Mid-Side processing lets you shape the mid and side information independently for wider mixes, tighter low end, or more focused center punch. - Can I add as much or as little harmonic color as I want?
Yes—the harmonic generation amount is user-controllable, so you can dial in subtle weight and density or keep the compression more transparent. - What’s Ultra Oversampling for?
Ultra Oversampling helps reduce artifacts and improves fidelity—especially useful when pushing compression hard or adding harmonics. - Can I match the meters to my session level?
Yes—Meter Calibration lets you calibrate the VU meters at four different sensitivities for more accurate gain staging and consistent readings. - Does it include workflow tools for fast decision-making?
Yes—A/B comparison, multilevel undo/redo, and Scribble Strips (notes right on the plug-in) speed up mixing and make it easier to recall your preferences. In addition, settings are always preserved while switching between VU, XT, and A units, so you can compare and select models very quickly.
