Miles Davis famously used a muted trumpet in Bb to great effect. His skillfully crafted performances elevate the trumpet in Bb to an effective crossover instrument, as he expanded the classic European style with more intense vibrato and brasher tones, while sacrificing nothing in aesthetics.
