General FAQ

nextMIDI is the developer of Divisimate, a real-time divisi orchestration and MIDI routing engine. ILIO is the authorized North American dealer for nextMIDI, and your point of contact for pre-sales questions, ordering, and post-sales support.

What is Divisimate and what does it do?

Divisimate is a real-time divisi orchestration tool. It takes a single live performance from your MIDI keyboard, splits the chords you play into individual musical voices, and routes each voice through virtual MIDI ports to separate virtual instruments or tracks. It is a MIDI routing utility, not a sound source: it produces no audio of its own and instead drives the instruments you already use.

Does Divisimate include any sounds?

No. Divisimate is a MIDI tool, not a sample library or synthesizer. It splits and routes your live playing to whatever virtual instruments you load in your DAW or to standalone instruments. If ILIO is running a bundle that pairs Divisimate with a sound library, that bundle is the exception. Contact ILIO for the current bundle and what it includes.

Is there a free version of Divisimate?

There is no free edition of Divisimate. nextMIDI does offer one free utility, the Nextmidi Merger Port, which combines multiple MIDI controllers into a single virtual MIDI port. It is a separate tool and not a trial or reduced edition of Divisimate.

Is there a trial available?

Yes. nextMIDI offers free trials, and each edition's product page shows a Trial option. Trial availability and terms are handled by nextMIDI directly. To find out whether a trial is currently available for the edition you are considering, contact ILIO and we will confirm the latest details with nextMIDI.

What does the Divisimate trial let me test, and how long does it last?

nextMIDI offers free trials and positions them for testing MIDI controller and DAW compatibility before you buy; each edition's product page shows a Trial option. nextMIDI does not publish the exact trial length or any feature limits, so for current trial terms contact ILIO and we will confirm with nextMIDI.

How Divisimate Works

Divisimate sits between your keyboard and your instruments. The notes below cover how it splits a performance, how it routes the result, and the helper app that manages the virtual ports.

How does the divisi engine split my playing?

You play chords on one keyboard, and Divisimate's real-time divisi engine separates the notes into individual voices. Each voice is then sent to a different virtual instrument, so a single performance can drive a full section or an entire ensemble at once, all from one controller.

How does Divisimate connect to my DAW and instruments?

Divisimate creates virtual MIDI ports that appear in your DAW or sequencer. Each split voice is routed out through one of those ports to the instrument or track you assign it to. The same approach works with standalone instruments outside a DAW.

Do I run Divisimate as a plugin or as a standalone application?

It depends on the edition. Divisimate 2 runs as a standalone application and as a VST3, AU, or AAX plugin. Divisimate Core and Divisimate Micro are plugin only, in VST3, AU, and AAX formats. There is no VST2 or 32-bit version. Core and Micro can run as multiple instances, and the Nextmidi Hub includes a port layout that lets several Micro instances run in parallel.

What is the Nextmidi Hub?

The Nextmidi Hub is a small helper application installed alongside Divisimate. It runs in the Windows system tray or the macOS menu bar and manages the virtual MIDI ports, including the free Merger Port. It offers different port layouts, such as a full single-instance layout and a 4x4 layout that allows several Micro instances to run in parallel. It is the component that keeps the ports available to your host.

Do I need a MIDI keyboard to use Divisimate?

A MIDI keyboard or controller is the intended way to play into Divisimate, since the whole point is to split a live chord performance into voices. Divisimate itself does not ship hardware and is not a hardware product. If you have a specific setup in mind, contact ILIO and we can confirm what you need.

What is DivisiControl and do I need it?

DivisiControl is nextMIDI's free remote app for iOS and Android that connects over your network to the desktop Divisimate app, letting you control it from a second screen. As it is optional, it is not a substitute for the desktop software and is not required to use Divisimate. DivisiControl requires Divisimate 2, iOS or iPadOS 12.0 or later, or Android 5.0 or later.

Can Divisimate split prerecorded MIDI, or only a live performance?

Divisimate is designed around live input from your MIDI controller, splitting the chords you play in real time. It also works with prerecorded MIDI played back into it from your DAW, so you are not limited to a live performance. For the specifics of your DAW routing, see nextMIDI's DAW setup guides or contact ILIO.

Does Divisimate support MPE controllers?

Yes, with basic MPE input. Since version 1.3 Divisimate supports Lower Zone MPE using Global Channel 1. Divisimate Core lists MPE input among its features. If you play an MPE controller and want to confirm behavior for your specific edition, contact ILIO and we will verify with nextMIDI.

I set up the routing in my DAW but I can only hear one instrument. What is wrong?

This is a common routing question with a dedicated topic in nextMIDI's support center. It usually comes down to how the Divisimate ports are mapped to tracks in your DAW. See the matching topic on the Divisimate support page, or contact ILIO and we will walk it through with you.

Editions and Compatibility

Divisimate comes in three paid editions. The editions scale by the number of output ports and parts, the voice count, the modifier plugins included, and which performance and remote features are present.

What are the differences between Micro, Core, and Divisimate 2?

The editions scale up in capacity and feature set:

  • Divisimate Micro ($49): the essential divisi plugin. Up to 4 voices, 4 single ports per plugin (16 overall), and a maximum of 4 parts, with Note-only humanization. Plugin only.
  • Divisimate Core ($149): the modular orchestration toolkit. Up to 8 voices, 16 ports per plugin (32 overall), up to 16 parts per instance, all five modifier plugins (Transposer, Trigger, Repeater, Arpeggiator, and Transformer), 200+ factory presets, MPE input, the Remote App, the Perform Page, Multipads, and Note and CC humanization. Plugin only, and its plugin output cannot currently be used in Ableton Live, LUNA, or MainStage.
  • Divisimate 2 ($249): the full engine. Up to 8 voices, 32 multitimbral ports, up to 512 addressable parts across MIDI channels, three Divisi Modes, the full set of five modifier plugins (Transposer, Trigger, Repeater, Arpeggiator, and Transformer), the Perform Page with Multipads, the Remote App and MIDI Remote, Preset Transitions, and Note and CC humanization. Standalone plus plugin.

All three editions are multitimbral and run as VST3, AU, and AAX plugins. Divisimate 2 also runs as a standalone application; Divisimate Core and Divisimate Micro are plugin only.

Is there a Divisimate bundle that includes sounds?

If ILIO is currently running a Divisimate 2 bundle that pairs the engine with a sound library so you have instruments to drive out of the box, the bundle contents and price are set by ILIO and change over time.

Are upgrades or crossgrades available between editions?

Yes. nextMIDI offers upgrade and crossgrade pricing between editions, shown when you are logged into your account. As a guide, Micro owners receive a discount toward Divisimate 2, Divisimate 2 and Divisimate 1 owners receive a discount toward Micro, and Divisimate 1 owners can upgrade to Divisimate 2 at a reduced upgrade price. For pricing on a specific upgrade or crossgrade, contact ILIO with the products you already own.

Is there an educational discount on Divisimate?

Yes. nextMIDI offers a 35 percent educational discount for students and educators year round. You apply through the Apply for Educational Discount link on the Divisimate site and attach proof of current enrollment (students) or employment (educators). nextMIDI does not state which editions the discount covers, so if you want it confirmed for a specific edition or applied to a purchase through us, contact ILIO and we will check with nextMIDI.

Which DAWs does Divisimate work with?

Listed compatible DAWs include Cubase, Studio One, Pro Tools, Reaper, Ableton Live, Digital Performer, and Logic Pro. Because Divisimate works through virtual MIDI ports, it integrates with hosts that can receive MIDI from those ports.

Why can my version of Logic Pro only record 16 Divisimate ports at once?

Logic Pro 10.6 and earlier can only record 16 ports at a time, mapping the first 16 Divisimate ports to MIDI channels. Logic Pro 10.7 and later supports all 32 ports. Some other DAWs, such as Studio One, require you to add the Divisimate ports manually. See nextMIDI's DAW setup guides for details.

System Requirements

Divisimate is cross-platform software for macOS and Windows. The notes below cover the operating systems and processors. For the exact current minimums on the latest build, confirm with ILIO before purchase.

What are the system requirements?

Divisimate runs on macOS and Windows as 64-bit software. Reported requirements list macOS 10.11 or later and Windows 10 or later, with an Intel Quad Core processor (or AMD equivalent) and 16 GB of RAM recommended. The exact minimum operating system, processor, and RAM for the latest 2.x build are best confirmed with ILIO before purchase, since published figures come largely from retail listings.

Is Divisimate native on Apple Silicon?

nextMIDI's own product pages do not state whether Divisimate ships as a native Apple Silicon build; the published specifications list an Intel Quad Core processor and 64-bit macOS 10.11 or later. If you need confirmation that a specific edition runs natively on your Apple Silicon Mac at its current version, contact ILIO and we will verify with nextMIDI.

Authorization and Activation

Divisimate uses online, account-based activation through nextMIDI's Moonbase licensing platform. There is no iLok and no USB dongle. The notes below cover activation, moving between machines, managing your license, and clearing leftover MIDI ports.

How is Divisimate authorized?

Activation is online and account-based through nextMIDI's Moonbase platform. There is no iLok and no dongle. When you purchase from the nextMIDI or Divisimate website, an account is created automatically with your license deposited in it; you receive an email to set a password, then log in to download and activate. The first launch offers browser activation (recommended) or offline activation for systems that stay permanently offline.

On how many computers can I activate my license?

You can install Divisimate on as many devices as you like, and your license can be active on two machines at a time. The license also permits one backup copy.

How do I move my license to another computer?

Open Divisimate, go to Settings, and choose Manage Activation, then Deactivate. This frees an activation slot in near real time over an internet connection, so you can activate on another machine. If you no longer have access to the original computer, the Moonbase web portal also allows remote deactivation to free a seat. Remote deactivation is not available for offline activations.

Do I need an internet connection to use Divisimate?

An internet connection is required for online activation and deactivation, and an offline activation option is available for systems that stay permanently offline. If you have a specific offline workflow in mind and need to confirm how the software behaves day to day, contact ILIO and we will check the current details with nextMIDI.

I bought before May 2024 and received a license key. What do I do?

Create an account on nextMIDI's Moonbase platform and redeem your key under Redeem. Your license is then tied to that account, and you can manage it in the User Area on the website or directly at the Moonbase portal if the website is unavailable.

Where do I download Divisimate and get updates?

Downloads and updates come from the User Area of your account on the nextMIDI or Divisimate website, with the Moonbase portal as a direct fallback. The installer sets up the application, the plugin formats you select, and the Nextmidi Hub helper app. Updates have historically been provided as free downloads, though future updates are at nextMIDI's discretion.

Can I sell or transfer my license to another person?

nextMIDI's published terms do not spell out a standard procedure for permanently transferring or reselling a normal license to another owner, and Not For Resale copies cannot be transferred at all. Day to day, you move a license between your own machines using in-app or remote deactivation. For any transfer or resale question, contact ILIO and we will route it to nextMIDI rather than quote a policy that is not published.

Divisimate says it cannot connect to a set of unused ports, or I get a No Available Ports message. What do I do?

This is a known port-management situation covered in nextMIDI's support center for both Divisimate 2 and Divisimate Micro. It is handled through the Nextmidi Hub, which manages the virtual MIDI ports. See the matching topic on the Divisimate support page, or contact ILIO and we will route it to nextMIDI.

I removed Divisimate but the Divisimate MIDI ports still show up on my system. How do I clear them?

The virtual ports are created by the Nextmidi Hub helper, not by Divisimate itself, so they can remain after the main app is removed. nextMIDI's support center has a dedicated topic for clearing the leftover Divisimate ports after deinstallation. On Windows the ports are managed by Bome MIDI, which is uninstalled separately. See the matching support topic or contact ILIO.

Sales and Ordering

The following answers cover ordering nextMIDI products from ILIO. Authorization, downloads, and updates are handled through your nextMIDI account regardless of where you purchased.

I'm new to Divisimate. Which edition should I start with?

It depends on how large an ensemble you want to drive at once. Micro covers essential divisi for smaller setups, Core adds more ports, parts, and the full modifier suite, and Divisimate 2 is the full engine for large templates that address many instruments. If you also want a bundle that includes sounds, contact ILIO for the current offer. For a recommendation based on your rig, contact ILIO.

When will I receive my license and download?

Once your order is processed, your license is deposited in your nextMIDI account and you receive an email to set a password and log in to download. Check your spam folder before contacting support if you do not see the email.

Do you offer volume or multi-seat discounts for studios, schools, or institutions?

Yes. nextMIDI offers volume discounts for outfitting multiple workstations at a company or institution. There is no published per-seat price; it is handled case by case. Contact ILIO with the number of seats you need and we will arrange pricing with nextMIDI.

Where can I find manuals, setup guides, and a searchable FAQ?

nextMIDI maintains a self-service support center at divisimate.com/support with sections for general questions, DivisiControl, troubleshooting, features, and DAW setup, plus a Get Started guide and per-product PDF manuals for Divisimate 2 and Divisimate Core. For North American sales and account help, contact ILIO and we will escalate to nextMIDI when a deeper technical or licensing issue needs it.

What is your refund or return policy?

A general money-back window is not published for Divisimate. For questions about refunds or returns on a specific order, contact ILIO and we will confirm what applies to your purchase.

How do I get help with installation or authorization?

ILIO is your single point of contact for installation, authorization, and ordering questions. Contact ILIO.
