Brassy Origins
The Bb flugelhorn belongs to the family of bugle horns, alongside instruments like the euphonium and the (contra)bass tuba, though its appearance resembles a larger trumpet. Its name originates from the “Flügelmeister” of the 18th century, who used blasts from the instrument to coordinate regimental flanks during battles.
Beyond its use in military and marching bands, the flugelhorn’s velvety, rich tone brings warmth to nimble melodic lines, making it an ideal choice for jazz, where its smooth sound complements the genre’s improvisational and dynamic soloing style.
Versatile and Expressive
The library features a full set of expressive and dynamic articulations, offering various short and long notes, legatos (including fast legatos), crescendos and diminuendos, sfz, sffz, pfp, flutter tongue, and half and whole tone trills. Recording the samples relatively dry at the Silent Stage makes it possible to place them on your virtual stage and in the stereo field wherever you like, but also enables you to integrate the instrument with the Synchron Series by using the internal convolution reverb recreating Vienna’s own scoring stage, Vienna Synchron Stage.
